Summary of Children of the Mountains:
Often times we think we all have equal chances in life and that we are individually responsible for everything that happens to us. Think about your lives, the lives of Sam Walton's (founder of Wal-Mart) children, Paris Hilton, and others, and think about life chances and social influences.
1. What are some of the social influences that the children in the movie experienced that could have made life much harder (things as children that they really did not have control over)?
2.Did Paris Hilton have more advantages than the children in the movie, or is she individually responsible for her success?
3. Most people end up in the same social class as their parents, why is this the case? Think sociologically about this exercise. You will be assessed on your sociological thinking.
