Nursing Interventions of a Patient with Acute Alcohol:
Intoxication and Withdrawal Some nurses find it very difficult to work with the alcoholics. This is particularly true when the client displays provocative, manipulative, hostive, testing, or dependent behaviour. It is also true, when nurses view drinking as 'normal', owing to their own values regarding alcohol. Wfien the client is not recovering and is repeatdly readmitted for detoxification, the nurses respond with anxiety, frustration, anger, criticism, avoidance, rejection, moral judgements, or authoritative behaviour. The nurse may feel unrewarded and hopeless about the client. he nurses, who have been raised in families with alcoholics, or are married to alcoholics, are particulary vulnerable to these feelings. The appearance of the alcoholic out of control may evoke painful memofies.
