Now you have the opportunity to analyze what has been

Now you have the opportunity to analyze what has been discussed and to provide your critical analysis of the contemporary research. You have already identified organizations facing issues. In a paper, summarize and critique their issues to provide recommendations of what you might do to resolve the issue(s) if possible. Be creative and succinct with your recommendations. Provide examples to illustrate your thoughts and justify your recommended course(s) of action for each organization.

Support your paper with a minimum of five (5) scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

BHP Billiton (BHP) is one of the biggest miners in the world and operates in over 25 countries including Brazil. The BHPdam in Brazil raised concerns more than 2 years before it failed causing monumental disasters.  BHP’s vision is that of making a positive contribution to society (BHP Billiton, 2016). BHP has a very positive mission statement/ vision that they is very conscious of the environment, business ethics, and corporate social responsibility (BHP Billiton, 2016).Management have issues regarding the collapse of the Brazilian dam along with the loss of human life, economic turmoil, and environmental damage (Saunders, Timson, & Desloires, 2015). BHP’s management now has to face the economic, human capital, and ethical issues regarding this disaster and the catastrophic tailings dam failure.  It is not clear why the dam failed but the design of the dam and its local geography were in conflict and there was always a potential for catastrophic scenarios (Saunders et al., 2015).

This particular Brazilian project is in complete contrast to BHP’s vision regarding the economic and ethical issues. BHP will undertake major projects to reverse the damage and devastation but it is the loss of life is irretrievable and the environmental damage that will take centuries to overcome if ever.

Volkswagen’s vision statement is that of offering attractive, safe, and environmentally sound vehicles which can compete in an increasingly tough market and to set world standards in their respective class (Sabu, 2016). This appears to be in complete contrast to their tinkering with the emissions control system in their vehicles.

The car manufacturer admitted that they had a “defeat device” in their software in diesel engines to cheat on emissions tests in the USA (Hotten, 2015). Management had the software altered which is in complete contrast to the vision statement regarding ethical issues and carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide pollutants and emissions up to 40 times greater than the set limits. This was no aberration in quality control but a deliberate attempt to flaunt the regulations.

It is quite clear that VW has lost trust in the marketplace as a direct result of the scandal (Hotten, 2015). The long-term plan structural changes are currently being undertaken and Klingler the head of sales and marketing as well as a board member stated that VW has a long-term plan in structural changes in rectifying such “technical issues” (Hotten, 2015).

The issue is not in the pollution is so much as in the deliberate manipulation to circumvent rules and regulations. This is once again, in complete contrast to VW’s vision.
