Nonprofit organizations that cater toward specific diseases

Nonprofit organizations that cater toward specific diseases seem to have a target audience mindset of targeting people that are related to the cause in some way or another. One example might be the Leukemia and Lymphoma society, it is going to target audiences that might have some relation to cancer by having it themselves or knowing someone that has had it. It seems that most organizations broaden their target audience by having events that appeal to the masses to come participate and get involved. One example with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society is team in training. That draws a lot of people together that are interested in running marathons and supporting the cause through that type of event, regardless of whether or not they have a connection to the cause.
