Nitrite rubbers (Gr-A or Buna-N or NBR): Nitrite rubber is prepared by the copolymerization of butadiene and acrylonitrile in emulsion systems.
Properties:
1. These rubbers have low swelling, low solubility, good tensile strength and abrasion resistance even after immersion in gasoline and oils.
2. They are less resistant to alkalis due to the presence of cyno groups.
3. They have excellent resistance to heat oils, chemicals, aging (sunlight).
4. As the acrylonitrile percentage is increased in nitrile rubber, its resistance to acids salts, oils, solvents etc. increases.
5. Vulcanized nitrile rubber is more resistant to heat and sunlight than natural rubber and it may be exposed to high temperature.
Uses: nitrile rubber is used for making:
1. Oil resistant foam
2. Conveyor belts
3. Lining of hose
4. Gas kits
5. Printing rollers
6. Automobile parts and high altitude aircraft components
7. House and
8. Adhesives.
9. Creamery equipment etc.
