Assignment is your reflective piece of writing on reflecting and critically interrogating the idea of development and theories of development from a number of perspectives; and also examining them in relation to a particular issue or situation. It is envisaged that providing you with an opportunity to stop and take pause on your learning would also provide a useful opportunity to relate the theoretical material with the real-world environment. You will have the opportunity to begin this reflective piece from the beginning of the course. This reflective piece will need to be submitted together with the Final Assignment.
You may may wish to draw on one or more authors or lectures that may demonstrate or relate meaningfully to a particular aspect or point that you have thought about and has changed/or reinforced your views or interpretations. In a sense, you are giving a "cameo sketch" of a piece of scholarship, showing that you have a command of its broad significance, and that you have now reflected upon how that unit of meaning fits into a broad reflection on the period of study. One of the most painless ways of doing this is to cruise back through your book of readings, perhaps also your tutorial notes, maybe even your lecture notes, and you will be surprised how much information, both factual and analytical, will come flooding back to you.
Assessment Criteria:
(a) Reflection and analysis - Seeks to understand concepts by examining openly your own experiences in the past as they relate to the topic, to illustrate points you are making. Demonstrates an open, non-defensive ability to self-appraise, discussing both growth and frustrations as they related to learning in class. Risks asking probing questions about self and seeks to answer these.
(b) Connection to Outside Experiences: In-depth synthesis of thoughtfully selected aspects of experiences related to the topic. Makes clear connections between what is learned from outside experiences and the topic.
(c) Connection to class discussions & course objectives: Synthesize, analyse and evaluate thoughtfully selected aspects of ideas or issues from the class discussion as they relate to this topic.
