A realistic movie is set in the real world as opposed to a fantastical environment. If a movie is also authentic it creates a world that feels representative and/or true to the experience of the people it portrays. Do you think KILLER OF SHEEP is a authentic portrayal of an African-American neighborhood? Do the formal elements of the film add to its realism or deter from it? Can you think of a contemporary movie that feels authentic to you? What specifically makes it seem so?
