An important cultural influence in your life
"My mother has always given me freedom. This has allowed me to make my own decisions. Her parenting style has helped me grow up quickly at a young age, and find who I am. I have been able to succeed in school and in the workplace because of the freedom my mother gave me. I am not afraid of the unknown. I greatly appreciate her parenting style. When I attended the United Nations in March, my group and I were extremely controlled. This authoritarian style did not sit well with my group and me. I can attribute the desire for freedom in NY from my mother's parenting style and her cultural influence.
My mom's degree includes many psychology classes, thus she valued establishing trust v mistrust, and other developmental milestones mentioned in the text. My grandfather is great with kids, so I grew up in a kid-friendly environment. This has helped me in relating and understanding children. Because of my cultural influences at home, I am able to understand different kinds of people with an open mind. If I had grown up differently, I may be more selfish, defiant, and close-minded. The cultural influence I received via my mom's parenting style has helped my development in a positive way. It has opened doors for me, given me insight, and helped me understand things big picture. One's home life can affect his/her adulthood and lifespan development."
