Write a detailed analysis on a journalistic article from A MAINSTREAM MEDIA newspaper or magazine. Print media only.

The article must be about a topic related to the subject material of the class PRIMARILY FROM UNIT TWO OR UNIT THREE.

The Goal: Explain multiple significant microeconomic concepts TO A PERSON WHO DOES NOT KNOW ANY ECONOMICS and apply the theory to the situation, project forward what may happen.

Articles must be submitted and approved by the instructor prior to beginning work on your paper.

Restrictions:

Article must be published on or after the 1st of the Month and year in which the semester started. This means January 1 of the current year for Spring Semester Classes, May 1 of the current year for Summer Semester Classes and August 1 of the current year for Fall semester classes. The Publication date is found in the corners of the page of a newspaper or magazine

1. The article must deal specifically with topics covered in units 2 and 3 of the course. For Microeconomics, you CANNOT do articles relating to any of the following: Business Cycles, Gross Domestic Product, Price Indices and rates of inflation, unemployment rates and the labor force/categories of unemployment, International Trade and Foreign exchange, Fiscal Policy, The Federal Reserve and Monetary Policy. For Microeconomics it means you MUST do articles relating to only the following: Individual Businesses or groups of businesses within specific output markets for specific products with you taking time to research the descriptive attributes of the market structure and identifying after presenting the information which output market structure is the best fit for the firm/market/product; discussion of the various fixed and variable costs, as well as explicit and implicit costs the firm(s) are facing; identifying different kinds of product differentiation and non-price competition that may be present within the market; going through a detailed breakdown of descriptors for the kind of resource/labor market(s) the firm is employing from.

2. The article must come from a factual, legitimate, mainstream journalistic source printed publication. It cannot come from a business website, social media, a government website, a political party’s website, anyone’s blog, Wikipedia or any other online source. Print media only. Please check the No-No list at the end of this page for specific banned sources.

3. The article must be long enough and have enough relevant content to create a paper of 6 full pages of typed, double-spaced text, plus graphs. 6 full pages of typed double spaced text with 1” margins, NOT including graphs or citations, is the minimum length required.
