Motion of the center of mass


The two bodies, each made up from weights form a set are joined by a light (mass less) chord that passes over a light, frictionless pulley having a diameter of 50 mm. The two bodies are positioned at the same vertical level. Each originally consists of a mass of 500 g.

i) Put their center of mass.

ii) 20 grams are transferred from one body to the other; however the bodies are prevented from moving. Place the center of mass.

iii) The two bodies are now released. Explain the motion of the center of mass and find out its acceleration.
