Most Western societies value efficiency and place a dollar value on time. Western cultures are often described as monochronic (Hall, 1976) while Latin American and Middle Eastern cultures are described as polychronic. How important are timekeeping technologies in these various cultures? To what degree are these technologies symbolic of cultural differences?
