Models of non-profit governance now create your own idea

ASSIGNMENT: "Models of Non-Profit Governance"

This assignment will help you understand the types of governance models for non-profit corporations. These models are usually far different from those of traditional, for-profit corporations. The reason is that they are geared to reflect the purpose and approach of the non-profit corporation--which is not to generate profit for owners, but is instead designed to serve various social, welfare, religious, or other service or altruistic purposes.

Read "Synopsis of Non-profit Types" posted on Moodle. Perform your own internet searches for additional information if needed.

Now, create your own idea for a non-profit corporation. There are no "right or wrong" ideas in this regard. For instance, your non-profit organization can be designed to provide education to the public on the need to protect stream flows into desert lakes in California and Nevada to preserve the unique biology of such lakes, or could be a fund-raising organization "political action committee" for a presidential candidate, or could be a non-profit corporation to serve as a homeowners' association for four owners of a time-share unit.

Describe the purpose of your non-profit. Then, select and explain the type of governance model would best serve the organization, using the types described in the web site above.

Decide whether your non-profit should include members, and provide a rationale.

The length of the paper should be 3 to 4 double-spaced pages.
