Minorities are involved in a disproportionate share of criminal activity and racial differences in the crime rate remain an extremely sensitive issue. However, research indicates no relationship between race and self-reported delinquency. Some of the reasons for high minority levels of criminal activity may be true racial differences in the crime rate, racial bias in justice processing, racism and discrimination, institutional racism, economic disparity, social disparity, and family dissolution.
