Metacognition is thinking about thinking. What are some of the benefits of metacognition and why is it important for doctoral learners to understand their metacognitive processes?
Part 1

According to Martinez (2006), “metacognition is the process of thinking about thinking.” Introduction to critical thinking (2014) suggested that the metacognitive process involves being aware of why you think the way you do, and why you formed the opinions you formed. These processes, he thinks, involves being a critical thinker.
