Medication
The patient is advised to continue antibiotics for a week more after discharge. Other medications prescribed are analgesics (acetaminopen), cough syrup, diuretics and digoxin in some patients and anticoagulants in valve replacement cases (Sintrom). Teach the patient how to count pulse for one full minute before discharge and advice him to note his pulse every day at the same time and also note any changes in the rate or rhythm. Explain about each medicine, how to take it, side-effects, safe keeping at home etc. and when not to take medicine.
