Measures of central tendency

Please consider the hypothetical sample of 50 students (contained in a separate Excel spreadsheet) from a local community college, which indicates their SAT score, HS GPA, and their typical choice of seating (front rows or back rows) in the classroom. (You can analyze this data in Excel).

(a) In your own words, define the three measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode), range, and standard deviation. Compute these measures for the college GPA. What in your opinion is the appropriate central tendency measure to use in this case, and why?

(b) Is there a relationship between SAT score and College GPA? Please plot these two variables in an Excel scatter plot, and determine the line of best fit (regression line). How do you think these two variables are related? Does one cause the other, or is there something else in play here? Is there a strong correlation between two variables? Can you make reasonable prediction of college success based on SAT score?

(c) Do you think the choice of front or back row in a college classroom influences GPA, based on this data? Please justify your answer with data analysis and/or graphical tools! This is an open ended question - please use any statistical tools you may like.
