Some sociologists study sports in society because sports are tied to ideologies in societies. Explain what is meant by "ideologies" and then show how sports are related to ideas about one of the following: gender, race or social class.
Essay question #2:
Many people believe that sports have always fostered positive relationships between wealthy and poor people. Would you agree or disagree with this statement? Using material from Chapter 9 and from your own experience, show why you would agree or disagree.
Essay question #3:
The future is created in connection with people's experiences and their assessment of those experiences. Describe your experiences in sports and indicate whether they are most consistent with the power and performance model or the pleasure and participation model. Referencing the final chapter, explain why your experiences have more closely fit one model or the other, and indicate what model you would prefer in the future.
