Many homeless youths are afraid that their parents or guardians may be contacted about their whereabouts or that they may be returned to them. This can lead them to lie about their age and/or medical conditions. According to Ensign and Ammerman, monetary incentives was a key factor with the willingness of their research clients (2008). However, this can also be a slippery slope as this can lead to homeless youth lying to receive the funds. How do experts get around this?
