This week’s Learning Resources discuss the importance of involving all stakeholders in data-based decision making and examine some of the challenges of managing this communication in a school district. For this week’s Discussion, you will conduct independent research to identify strategies and tips for effectively communicating data within a school district and to the larger community.
Begin your research by considering the “interested parties” described in Law and Litigation. Consider also the potential pitfalls of using data described in Data-Enhanced Leadership. Next, think about the following questions and conduct research to identify resources, strategies, tips, and other information to help you respond to them:
What are some of the potential pitfalls of using assessment data in making critical decisions about school improvement? What are some of the challenges of sharing assessment data with stakeholders?
What are some strategies for avoiding those potential pitfalls and maintaining positive public relations? What are some tips for managing the message in the media?
How can I ensure that I am constructing and communicating clear messages about assessment data?
What are some resources for district leaders to learn effective communication and public relations skills (websites, books, organizations, publications, etc.)?
