Problem

Much of the current literature has focused on the impact of pornography watching on one's mental health, especially among college students. However, very few studies have looked at the impact of whether mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, etc. contribute to the increased risk of pornography watching, filming, or paid initiation. It is known however that adolescents and young adults who experience traumatic events in earlier stages of life and/or experience substance use issues are at higher risk of engaging in paid sexual activity. Therefore, we are interested in looking at to what extent are mental health issues associated with the frequency of pornography watching, filming oneself, and/or paid initiation. Additionally, we are interested in seeing whether Adverse Childhood Experiences, substance use, and sexual satisfaction modify this relationship.
• Research Question: Are adolescents and young adults who experience mental health issues such as depression and anxiety at higher risk of pornography watching, filming, and paid initiation of sexual activity?
• Hypothesis: Adolescents and young adults who experience mental health issues such as depression and anxiety have a higher prevalence of pornography watching, filming, and paid initiation of sexual activity compared to those who do not experience mental health issues.
