Motivated people are those who have made the conscious decision to dedicate considerable effort to achieving something which they value. What they value will diverge greatly from one individual to another.  Managers are continually challenged to motivate the workforce to do two things. The first challenge is to motivate employees to work towards assisting the organization achieving its goals and the second is to motivate employees to work towards accomplishing their own personal objectives.

(a) Illustrate out the major features of Maslow’s theory of motivation and provide illustrations of how it can be related at work.

(b) Discuss and illustrate out some of the best ways to motivate employees in the organization

Great feats of human accomplishment such as the Egyptian pyramids, the Great Wall of China, the Colosseum in Rome and the Taj Mahal  in India all bear testimony to skilful management.  But it has been seen that there has been an evolution in management theory till then.

Discuss how management theory evolved.
