Magnitude-direction of the total magnetic force on the loop


A long solenoid, with a diameter of 10 cm, in generating a uniform magnetic field of 1 Tesla in a region near its center, as shown. In this central region, there is a square loop of wire, with a side length of 5 cm, placed concentric with the solenoid axis as shown below.

(a) If the loop of wire carries a current of 10 amperes, what is the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic force on the loop? (Ignore the forces on the straight connecting wires, and the fact that there is a small gap in the loop where the wires join.)

(b) On a sketch of the loop similar to that shown in the "end view", indicate the magnitude and direction of the force on each segment of the loop.
