Magnitude-direction of heat transfer if work done by system


A closed system undergoes a process from state 1 to state 3 along path 1-2-3 during which the heat transfer to the system is 47.5 Btu and 30 Btu of work is done by the system.

i. Determine the magnitude and direction of the heat transfer for process 1-4-3 if 15 Btu of work is done by the system during this process.

ii. If the system is returned to state 1 from state 3 by means of process 3-1, as shown in the accompanying figure, the work done on the system is 6 Btu. Determine the magnitude and direction of the heat transfer for this process.

iii. If E2 = 175 Btu and E3 = 87.5 Btu, determine the magnitude and direction of the heat transfer for process 2-3 and the value of E1.
