Magnetic storage - computer architecture:
Magnetic storage uses different type of patterns of magnetization on a magnetically coated surface to store information. Magnetic storage is non-volatile memory. The information is accessed by using one or more read/write heads which can contain one or more recording transducers. A write and read head only covers a part of the surface so that the medium or head or both have to be moved relative to another in order to access data. In modern computers, magnetic storage is of following type:
o Floppy disk is used for off-line storage
o Hard disk drive is used for secondary storage
- Magnetic tape data storage is used for off-line and tertiary storage.
