Problem
The purpose of this is to reflect on different ethnic and generational perspectives on aging and disability as well as to consider the effects these perspectives have on approaches to the care of the elderly and disabled.
Part A: Overview
I. State your personal understanding of what it means to be "old." Include an example.
i. Compare your understanding of aging to that of someone from a different generation. Include an example.
ii. Compare your understanding of aging to that of someone from a different culture. Include an example.
II. State your personal understanding of what it means to be "disabled." Include an example.
i. Compare your understanding of disability to that of someone from a different generation. Include an example.
ii. Compare your understanding of disability to that of someone from a different culture. Include an example.
Part B: Personal Reflection
I. If someone in your family needed care due to aging and/or disability, explain who would be responsible for providing that care and why.
i. Would it be important that caregivers be "family"?
ii. What is your definition of "family"?
II. Describe some way(s) in which your life has been impacted by aging or disability-either your own or someone else's.
Part C: Healthcare Application
I. List at least three statistics that provide important information about attitudes towards the aging or disabled in America and their care.
i. Explain why you selected each one.
ii. Cite your sources in your essay. List the resources you used to obtain this information at the end of your paper, in the last slide of your PowerPoint, or attached as a separate document if you submit a video.
II. Based on what you have learned so far in this course, explain how you feel that we, as a society, can do better at addressing the social and health care needs of the aging or the disabled.
