Assignment: Devising and Justifying an Active Directory Disaster Recovery Plan

Today's system administrators need to learn the skills needed for diagnosing and resolving the problems that can take place in an Active Directory forest. They will need to understand replication issues between domain controllers. Nothing is more stressful than having domain controllers that are not sharing information. By their very nature, domain controllers are supposed to be multi master replicas of one another, and you should have identical information on all domain controllers within a domain. However, some issues can arise and cause you to have a nightmarish day of troubleshooting.

In a 2-3 page report detail the methodology and planning which includes the following:

1. Define the two types of backups supported by Active Directory. Describe the difference between each of these backup strategies; how they are implemented and what tools can be deployed to accomplish these tasks. Â

2. Explain fragmentation. Compare and contrast online defragmentation and offline defragmentation.

3. What factors must be considered and planned to implement a successful Disaster Recovery Plan for a network using Active Directory?

4. List and define four types of disasters than can occur to an Active Directory infrastructure. What strategies could be implemented if these disasters occurred?

5. Define the Reliability and Performance Monitor. Explain the relationship between performance objects and performance counters.
