Lifting machines:
Basic definitions of the lifting machines and some lifting machines have been described. For each of these machines, derivation of the formulae for mechanical advantage, and velocity ratio was described. The use of formulae was also explained through some examples. Thus, after going through this unit you must have understood the following:
- The fundamental theoretical background of simple lifting machines.
- Pulleys and several systems of pulleys.
- Differential wheel and axle.
- Worm and worm wheel.
The lifting machines are chiefly utilized in materials handling which is very common in our daily life.
