Let's reflect on the difference between Field Independence and Field Dependence, specifically, do you think someone could exhibit characteristics of both?
From my own life, I can think of an example: When I travel to a new city, state or country, I have to rely on maps to help me locate where I want to go. I also may need to ask others for directions and perhaps even get tips on what might be of interest to see and do. When I am home however, I don't need a map and rarely do I need to ask for directions. Further, when I am home, I feel more confident that I have enough internal resources to tolerate any discomfort or anxiety I might feel should I get a little lost. But when I am traveling, I might not feel as confident.
Can anyone think of another example where the same person may shuttle back and forth between Independence and Dependence?
