Discussion Question -
When leading a group with children and their parents present, explain three special issues that may arise in such a group. How would you manage those issues as the group leader? Need Assignment Help?
Classmates Answer -
When leading a group with parents and child can raise some issues related to discipline, certain behaviors, and expectations. Parents may want to lead the conversations for their child. The counselor can lead the conversations in the group and promote balance between the child and the parent. 1. Because there are special issues with parents and their child that may arise during the group sessions. The counselor will mediate the group's uniqueness and guide the parent and child to a common ground. 2. Because of the difference of opinion between parent and child, this can be a challenge to the counselor. Rules, confidentiality has to be addressed in the beginning of the session so the group can know what to expect. Communication, trust, and openness is key to a successful session (Corey, 2018) . 3. Confidentiality can be a concern within the group, making the child uncomfortable, not wanting to share for fear if negative remarks from the parent. Sharing personal information can be difficult for both parent and child. The counselor will facilitate the conversations in a way that ensures that everyone feels comfortable and that all has a chance to speak.
