The ECOWAS and regional security in West Africa:
On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
1. Explain the key processes of, and implications of the regionalisation of security after the end of the Cold War
2. Analyse how historical, geographical, environmental and political factors such as leadership influences the security paradigm in different regions
3. Assess the global interests of the United States and other Great Powers in different regions
4. Evaluate the role of regional organisations in addressing regional and local security problems
5. Critically assess the main theories of regional security: especially Regional Security Complex Theory and the Security Communities approach (in light of the empirical study of two regions: South Asia, Middle East or West Africa
