Laws in most jurisdictions provide for the forfeiture of a person's assets if those assets have been acquired through proceeds of drug or drug-related activities. The assets and the money realized by law enforcement agencies is an important component of the budget of many agencies. It is also argued that the forfeiture of these assets serves as an important deterrent to this type of criminal activity.
