Larisa has decided to sell her Ford Mondeo. She places an advert in the local newspaper, The Rhondda Globe, which states: ‘For Sale, five-year-old Ford Mondeo. One lady owner, only travelled 5000 miles and recently resprayed pink. A bargain at only £6000. Please write to 18 Brewery Terrace, Porth or telephone me at work between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on: 01443-906010.' On Tuesday Jin sees the advert and telephones Larisa at 8 p.m. He leaves a message on her work's answer machine: ‘Hi Larisa, saw your advert. Would like to buy the car but can only pay £5500. I can pay cash and will pick the car up on Saturday.' Donal also saw the advert and lives only a few streets away from Larisa. He calls at Larisa's house on Tuesday at 9 a.m., but she is at work. He speaks to Larisa's daughter, Tessa. He informs Tessa that he wants to buy the car for his wife and will pay the £6000. He hands Tessa a cheque for £6000 and a note which explains he wishes to buy the car and will pick it up on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Tessa places the note and cheque on the kitchen table. She then leaves the house as she is going on a school trip and will not be returning until Friday. Emma has been looking for a car and sees Larisa's advert. She writes a letter to Larisa saying she will buy the car for £6000 and will pay in cash when she picks up the car on Saturday morning. Emma posts the letter at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, but unfortunately due to a local postal dispute the letter does not arrive at Larisa's house until Friday at 5 p.m. On Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Jin is in a local café, The Cwtch, and overhears the waitress, Olga, talking to her colleague. Olga tells her colleague that her neighbour is buying a pink Ford Mondeo as a surprise birthday present for his wife and is picking it up on Saturday morning. Upon hearing this, Jin telephones Larisa at work. Larisa has only just arrived at work as she has been away on a Yoga retreat for a couple of days. Jin informs Larisa that he will buy the car for £6500 and will pay cash. She accepts Jin's offer and he agrees to collect the car on Saturday morning. When Larisa arrives home on Friday evening she see Donal's note and cheque for £6000. She also reads Emma's letter.
