LACTATION -

1. Production of milk in the female's breasts after delivery is lactation.
2. Prolactin is responsible to synthesize milk in breast.
3. Oxytocin is responsibleto give out milk.
4. Breast feeding suspends pergnancy to inhibit FSH and LH.
5. Milk contains protein (casein, lactalbumen) fat, sugar (lactose) vitamins, minerals & water.
6. Milk is poor in vitamin C.
7. Milk can produce a weight gain of 25-30 gm. per day in the infant.
8. Note :- Colustrum is early milk produced in first 2-3 days.
9. It is thin, yellowish called fore milk. It is rich in protein but low in fat, rich in minerals.
10. It transfers antibodies from the mother to the baby to combat infection. Milk contain inhibitory peptide. If the breasts are not fully emptied, peptide inhibits milk production.
