The knowledge areas in the Project Management Institute’s project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) Guide

Title: Select and analyze a completed construction or construction-related project using the knowledge areas in the Project Management Institute’s project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) Guide, 5th edition or an earlier edition.

Project instructions:

The report should follow the format prescribed below:

1) Title page: Project management report of (company name)

2) Table of Content

3) Abstract (maximum of one page): This must be structured as follows:

a. Purpose
b. Design/methodology/approach (single case study, with an inductive or interpretivist approach)
c. Findings (this must be unique to the project)
d. Practical implications (e.g. self-assessment of PM practices against PM models) and limitations (e.g. a biased or subjective opinion)
e. Originality (e.g. specific lessons learnt from the project; recall that the project is unique, temporary, and result-oriented)

4) Introduction: This should provide detailed information about the project that you have selected (save for confidential information, please provide as much detail to convince on the significance of the project).

5) Analysis: The body of the report should be in the form of an analysis based on the ten knowledge areas in the PMBOK 5th edition as follows:

a. Integration management
b. Scope management
c. Time management
d. Cost management
e. Quality management
f. Human resource management
g. Communication management
h. Risk management
i. Procurement management
j. Stakeholders management

6) Discussion: Justify and focus on the top three knowledge areas as applicable to your project and develop a model to better manage the top three knowledge areas identified in a future project (NB: as per writer’s preference).

7) Conclusion: Amongst other things, the conclusion should address how the subjectivism or biased opinion has been minimized. It should present a summary of the critical lessons learnt personally and professionally. Importantly, recommendations for the management of similar projects in the future.
