As I was reading the novel The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, I came across many instances in which I was astounded from what I have read. I was curious of what others may think about certain parts of the novel and after much thought, I have chosen a few questions to include in the discussion.
1. Jeannette took on a mature behaviour from when she was an infant. Due to this behaviour, do you believe she has ever lived life as a "child"? Why or why not?
2. Jeannette did not let her parents live with her while they were in New York City. If you were Jeannette, would you let them live with you? Or would you rather watch them roam around homeless? Explain your choice.
3. Do you think Jeanette's parents truly loved her and her siblings? Why or why not?
4. How would you feel if you had Jeannette's parents? In what ways would your feelings be the same as Jeannette's? In what ways would they be different? Explain.
5. In what ways are Jeanette and her siblings stronger because of their childhood experiences?
6. Of the four siblings, why do you think Mareen was the only one with serious mental and emotional difficulties?
