Hmm, this is a good one ... can we consumers actually be "controlled" ?

Obviously, we can all agree that many controllable influences (and uncontrollable influences) in life can be powerful forces in guiding our activities and decisions , but the question is "which one(s) should a "marketer" be most concerned with?

Here, I tend to feel it would be the "Competitive Social Environment".

In my opinion, it's usually the only environmental variable that can be considered "partially" controllable.

Here, I mean wise marketing decisions can help swing the competitive environment in your favor ... normally this would not be the case when considering the such influences as the economic environment, the natural environment, or political and legal environments.
