In the 1950s and 60s, most clinical psychologists and psychiatrists in the U. S. considered homosexuality to be a mental disorder, and courts routinely ordered gays and lesbians to undergo involuntary psychological treatment to be "cured" of their "disorder". Is this historical example consistent with the critical psychology perspective?
