Biology and Environmental Science Chlorophyll is an important part of photosynthesis in plants and is also present in microscopic algae and other phytoplankton. A random sample of 20 locations along the western coastline of the United States was selected. Using fluorometry, the quantity of chlorophyll in the surface water was measured (in mg/m3 ) in early April and in late August. The pairwise differences (April measurement 2 August measurement) are given in the following table.
The distribution of chlorophyll in surface water is assumed to be continuous but not normal. Is there any evidence to suggest that the median chlorophyll amount in surface water is different in April than in August? Use a significance level of a = 0.05.
