Is product placement inherently deceptive

Assignment Task: Another interesting facet of the movies is PRODUCT PLACEMENT for the "big screen". Etch-a-Sketch boosted annual sales by 1.25 million units in 1995 due to its placement in Toy Story. What about all the James Bond movies? Various items on display over the years include mobile phones, Omega watches, BMW sedans and motorcycles, American Airlines, Smirnoff vodka, Avis car rental, Heineken beer . . . these and many more are shown throughout the film. The attraction of product placement for sponsors is obvious --- for one flat fee paid up front, a product that appears in a movie is in actuality a commercial that lives forever. Is product placement inherently deceptive? Are artistic decisions being placed second to the obligations to sponsors? Are scripts and camera angles being adjusted to accommodate manufacturers paying for props or promotional campaigns?
