Is number evidence of grand design massive freak coincidence

The Golden Ratio is the famous example of the non-repeating number. Its value is about = 1.6180339887... and it has been of interest to scientists, engineers, mathematicians and philosophers for thousands of years. Number is so well known, it has been allotted its own Greek letter, just like pi. Symbol for Golden Ratio is also known as phi. Reason this particular number is so interesting is that it seems frequently in both mathematics and in nature.

• Golden Ratio is repeatedly discovered in geometry, particularly in conjunction with formation of pentagons and pentagrammic shapes (including symmetrical five pointed star).

• Leonard Da Vinci famously included Golden Ratio into his works of art, including (it is suggested) most famous painting, the Mona Lisa.

• Investors employ Golden Ratio as the tool when trading in commodities.

• In 2003, researchers found data (later conclusively proven with followup studies) supporting notion that Golden Ratio is present in clock cycle of human brain waves.

• In Jan. 7, 2010 edition of journal Science, researchers reported evidence supporting notion that Golden Ratio was present at atomic level of matter within variations of cobalt atoms.

Knowing that the number, Golden Ratio, is present not just in mathematics, but may also be offer within own brain and body (at atomic or subatomic level), what do you believe it means? Is the number evidence of the grand design, the massive freak coincidence or something else?
