Reliability Estimates and Exploratory Factor Analysis Worksheet

In the first part of the assignment, you will conduct an exploratory factor analysis.

In the second part of the assignment, you will take your newly computed scale and sub-dimensions of the scale and answer a few research questions, as a review of the tests of difference from last week.

Your goal is to look at these collective 50 items and determine how many sub-factors exist through a combination of exploratory factor analysis and critical thought.  Thus, don't combine items in a sub-dimension that to you do not make intuitive sense as you look at the items.  Then, determine the overall reliability of each sub-dimension and the scale as an overall summative measure.

Write up your results in proper APA fashion, consistent with the internet motives write up in the Sun, A. Rubin, and Haridakis (2008) study that I handed out in class.

Thus, you should construct a table to highlight for EFA results.

The only difference is that I would like you to add is one additional statement with an overall Cronbach's alpha if someone wanted to look at overall ritual use, independent of a specific type.  This first portion of your assignment is worth 55 points.

Next, I would like you to compute new measures based on the EFA analysis you conducted.  Thus, you will compute an overall frequency of ritual use measure and a new measure for each sub-dimension you extracted of the different types of rituals.  Finally, you should run the appropriate tests to examine if there are differences in any of these new scales by age or marital status, as detailed in the four research questions below.

Write up the results of these tests in proper APA study (worth 20 points):

Is a participant's age related to their overall frequency of ritual use in committed romantic relationships?

Is a participant's age related to their frequency of ritual use in committed romantic relationships for each of the sub-dimensions you extracted (of different ritual types)?

Do participants who are married have a higher overall frequency of ritual use in their committed romantic relationships in comparison to people in committed romantic relationships who have not been married?

Is a participant's marital status related to their frequency of ritual use in committed romantic relationships for each of the sub-dimensions you extracted (of different ritual types)?
