Intriguing actives that are happening around the student

Assignment task:

Imagine a student who has lived in a small town, attended a rural high school, and did not have exposure/did not participate in partying activities. This student attained straight A's and was involved in academic clubs like debate team and national honor society. Imagine how this person would react to moving into a college dorm at a university with over 20,000 students. There is substance use (legal and non-legal), and the student's new roommate has a significant other who stays over sometimes (against the rules, and requires the student find another place to sleep for the night).

The student is now conflicted, having been very excited about college but finding the entire environment to be completely new and not in line with what the student has been taught. Yet, it seems as though the other students are nice people and having fun. They do not meet the expectations of what the student envisioned people who would do drugs, drink, and have pre-marital sex to be.

What are the student's options in resolving the differences between the attitude that was developed over the many years versus the many intriguing actives that are happening around the student?
