Intervention and pharmacological intervention

James and Gilliland (2013) present the case of Gordon, a professional man who is married and has two children and has become increasingly dependent on alcohol to deal with the stress and depression in his life.

James and Gilliland (2013) use a client, Gordon, to explain different features of his treatment. In the assessment phase, counselors consider Gordon's self-motivation for change, and find out that confrontation is required to give impetus to Gordon's treatment. This is a slightly different feature of crisis theory.
