Policy Memo – Ebola

Objective: You are senior foreign policy advisor, solve a situation/ problem (Ebola) in the world by making a solution to the US president (Barak Obama).

With this paper Use your imagination. go outside the boundaries to think about anything that you could do to solve the situation in your own way. ( i.e going into the caves where ebola has been hiding for multiple years and eradicating it)

The Problem: Ebola will completely stop international relations and global trade.

1. The problem – ( less than a page)

The first sentence starts with the words ” the problem is…” or some variation of that. Briefly and concisely describe the problem.

2. Review – ( about one page)

Discuss current policies, program or ways the problem is being dealt with.

3. Analysis of Options – (About 2-3 pages)

The first sentence starts with ” the root of the problem is…” and leads to options that may fix these overall problem. each resolution should be a sub-section.

Why have existing policies falied ( i.e not efficient or sanitary enough procedures). what are 3-4 options that may work better?

What are the main benefits and costs of your options and resolutions.

4. Recommendations – (less than one page)

Start this section with ” I recommend”
What do you recommend the president to do?
Why will your policy solve the problem?
how can the policy be implemented?

5. References – ( this is not included in the page count)

You must use at least one source from each of the following

– The US Government ( official policy)
www.state.gov

– A leading news paper

CIA World Factbook, Freedom House, RealClearWorld, International Crisis Group, Foreign Policy.

– A think tank
