Interact with the Parent and Child to Exchange Information
At this time the nurse can learn why the child has come to the hospital and the concerns and expectations he and his parents have about this experience. Nurse can collect information by interview. e During this interview, the nurse can communicate to the parents what they can expect of her and what she will expect of them. It is important to have a quiet place for the interview where parents, child and nurse will feel comfortable and at ease. As much as possible the interview should be conducted in one session with no interruptions. When appropriate, the interview should be carried out in three phases:
- Nurse, parent and child;
- Nurse and parents; and
- Nurse and child.
This sequence allows each individual the confidentiality of giving and or receiving personal information. It is good idea to explain to the family at the beginning of the interview the purpose of the information exchange and to give a brief description of what will be discussed.
