Intel’s Pentium Chip Crisis: An Ethical Analysis

Read Cindy Williams’ article “Intel’s Pentium Chip Crisis: An Ethical Analysis,” that was published in the March 1997 issue of IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication. (IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication is available through most university libraries, through either a subscription service or paper journals.) As Williams’ article explains, “Intel’s Pentium Chip Crisis” was more a crisis of mismanagement of audience than a chip crisis. After reading Williams’ article, prepare a brief (two- to three-page) summary of Pentium’s crisis, how the company handled the crisis, and the ethical analysis of the situation. Finally, comment on the role audience played in this scenario. Bring your summary to class and be prepared to discuss your thoughts with the class.
