Assessment: Preparing your report

You are to write a business report for Assessment that seeks to offer solutions aimed at avoiding IT governance and change management shortcomings evident in the operation of a contemporary IT project. Your report should consider the applicability of the various processes, frameworks, theories and standards that we examine in the course as possible remedies to the challenges apparent in the case study. Additionally, your report should present a remediation plan keeping in mind the importance of effective IT governance and change management.

The course website contains a template that must be used to prepare your report. The template provides some basic formatting and a structure designed to get you started as you prepare your report. You must ensure that you remove all prompts from the template prior to submission.

Your report will:

• Provide an Executive Summary that summarises the entire report. The reader should understand every aspect of your report once they have reviewed the Executive Summary - ensure all key points are covered including details about the case study, recommended governance standards, processes and/or frameworks and your recommended change management approach. The Executive Summary is typically written last, once your report is finished.

• Provide an introduction that opens with accurate statement of the purpose of the report followed by the definition of key terms with relevant citations. Include a brief introduction to the case study and close with a description of the structure of the remainder of the report.

• Provide a description of the case study and a detailed critical analysis of the governance and change management issues evident in the case. You should draw on multiple relevant, quality references (triangulation) about the case and suitable theories, frameworks, processes and/or standards to underpin your analysis.

• Recommend a feasible and suitable IT governance approach to remedy IT governance shortcomings/gaps evident in the case. Provide a discussion and critical analysis of relevant IT governance standards, processes and/or frameworks that is underpinned by high quality research (triangulation). Each aspect of the approach must be justified using multiple high quality references about relevant frameworks, standards and the case study (triangulation) that are evidenced through the use of RMIT Business citations and corresponding reference list entries. Be specific in your analysis and recommendations. Which parts of the framework you are recommending could solve specific problems evident in the case? Why is this framework the best option?

• Provide a discussion and justification of a proposed implementation/change management process that should have been used to implement the system. Each aspect of the recommended process must be feasible, suitable and justified using multiple high quality references about relevant theories, processes, frameworks, standards and the case study (triangulation) that are evidenced through RMIT Business citations and corresponding reference list entries.

• Provide a conclusion that summarises the key points made in your report. The points should correspond to the structure outlined in your introduction. You must summarise the case and your recommended IT governance and change management approaches here.
