Work-Life Benefits

Work-life benefits, or lifestyle benefits, are designed to suit the diverse needs of the workforce and to bridge the gap between the workplace and the home. They are intended to help balance an employees' busy schedule and alleviate the potential conflicts often felt between the demands on the individual's personal and professional life. Along with these individual perks, work-life benefits have produced many positive outcomes at the organizational level. For example, they have been cited as a method to increase an organization's bottom line, recruitment processes, and productivity. They have also been noted as a means to reduce absenteeism, job turnover, and workplace stress.

The WorldatWork Association places work-life benefits into seven categories: workplace flexibility, options for use of time off, health and wellness support, community involvement, care for dependents, financial support, and culture change initiatives. As you'll examine, these categories of work-life benefits share one common goal: alleviate employee stress caused by the competing demands of personal and professional life.
