* Context: What was happening in the world during that time period (politically, socially, etc.) that would affect the field and design?
* Origin and Locals: What was the country of origin for the design style and how far did it spread? Was it adapted in different locales?
* Other Styles: Was there an overlap with other design styles during that time (bothlocally and internationally)? Was the design style a reaction to a previous one or did it transition easily from the previous style? What style followed it? Was there an abrupt change or a smooth evolution?
* Primary Influencers: Who were the principle architects, artists, designers and/or colour theorists in the period? Who, if anyone, influenced them? Did the artists of the time have an influence on interior design and the general public?
* Design elements:
Colour is an element of design and cannot be completely separated from other elements. Historical periods are often recognized by their line and form. What are the dominant design elements that make this historical period instantly recognizable?
* Colour Schemes: Analyze the colour schemes that characterize this period. How were base hues modified with regard to value and saturation? What proportions of each hue were used? Were certain hues, values or saturations consistently dominant? How were colours placed architecturally? Are there strong contrasts of hue, value and temperature? Were new pigments recently available that influenced the use of colour? Were designers seeking harmony or discord?
* Contemporary Application: How would you adapt these colour schemes to a period interior created today?
