LIFE ARTS PROJECT (LAP):
A Life Arts Project is an integration of outside experience with classroom content. It is anindividualized learning project and will be discussed at length over the course of the semester. There area variety of ways to formulate and compose a successful LAP. The instructor will work individuallywith students in order to assist them in finding an appropriate LAP topic according to their lifeexperiences and interests.
The Life Arts Project Definition
The Life Arts Project (LAP) is at the heart of the School of New Resource’s philosophyof education. It is a way for students to take control of their learning by integrating theirexperiences, research, interests, and goals with content generated in the seminar. TheLAP can be used to assist students in seeing the relevance of knowledge by way of thestudent translating traditional academic categories into experiential ones. Furthermore,the student will have the opportunity to generate creative responses to the material andthus share the results of their investigation with their peers. As importantly, students cantake on the role of teacher in presenting their projects to the seminar. The LAP shouldfocus on primary rather than secondary research. Students’ research involves not merelyemploying the written work, but also utilizing community agencies, institutions, andorganizations. The LAP provides students the opportunity to formulate case studies, questionnaires, interviews, observations, reflective analyses, and/or artistic work. It is important to note that the LAP is not merely a literature review, but a hands-on project.The citation style for the LAP is APA. Reliable and professional websites that provide access toscholarly articles are acceptable (websites utilized should be ending in .gov, .org, or .edu). The LAPmust be a minimum of 10 pages with a minimum of 6 references. In addition to the paper, an oralpresentation is required. Two classes of the semester will be devoted to LAP oral presentations. Oralpresentations will be rated on clarity, organization, and originality.
